THE GREEK HERITAGE
Ancient metropolises, colonies and monuments in the world
The Hellenistic period is known for the spread of the Greek language, philosophy, science, art and architecture in many regions of the Aegean, the Middle East and India. Many cities with Hellenistic and Greek architectural influences were built in these regions, such as Alexandria in Egypt.
THE GREEK HERITAGE
THE IDEA
The mapping of Greek heritage has existed as an idea for several years, but with different titles and a different approach. “Escape Greece, Via Egnatia, Silk Roads, Greek Cultural Routes”, mainly limited to the Greek area.
Since 2020, the idea of mapping all the Greek monuments in the world has matured. We have already recorded hundreds of Greek monuments, ancient and Byzantine, in Istanbul, Italy, the coast of Asia Minor and the Black Sea, Albania, North Macedonia and elsewhere.
This project with the general title THE GREEK HERITAGE aims to research and record Greek monuments located in archaeological sites, museums and archaeological collections. It will not just be a photography of the monuments, but a contemporary artistic recording, with panoramic and aerial shots, short videos, 360o photos and videos to create virtual tours.
Gradually a database will be created, a huge Greek Library, with tens of thousands of photographs and videos, a virtual panorama of ancient and Byzantine civilization.
At the same time, we aim to start documenting this material through synergies with universities in Greece and abroad. We expect that this multidisciplinary archaeological data bank will become an educational tool for universities worldwide, which have Greek Culture as an academic subject.
Soon we hope that the modern record of the Greek Heritage will be presented to the public through the integrated tour – cultural portal www.thegreekheritage.com, with digital applications, publications and exhibitions in Greece and abroad, with multiple benefits for our country and our culture.
