Ancient Stagira




Ancient Stagira is known for being the birthplace of Aristotle, the greatest philosopher of ancient times and the tutor of Alexander the Great. The city was founded in ca. 655 B.C. by colonists from the island of Andros.
Down to the Persian Wars, Stagira was a free, independent and prosperous city. After the Persians retreated, it became an ally both to the Athenians and later to the Spartans until the city was occupied by king Philip II of Macedon in 349 B.C.
A few years after the destruction, however, Philip himself repopulated the city in return for Aristotle’s, tutoring of his son Alexander. Yet Stagira never recovered its former brilliance and it is henceforth mentioned by ancient authors only on a few occasions, invariably in connection with the great philosopher. An enchanting later written tradition records that after Aristotle died, the inhabitants of Stagira transferred and buried his relics inside the city, in a place called “the Aristoteleion”, a large altar was erected on his grave, and an annual festival was instituted in his honour, called the "Aristoteleia".

Aristotle’s park




The Aristotle's Park, a unique theme park of Halkidiki, is located in a most beautiful area with a marvellous view
towards the Gulf of Ierissos and the whole peninsula of Athos.
The park is dedicated to the famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle and includes a series of interesting instruments which when used properly will show the phenomena of nature. These experimental instruments, operating by rules of physics are mentioned in Aristotle’s textbooks and especially in the one called “The Naturals”.
The 12 interactive instruments include a prism, optical discs, a water turbine, a telescope, sounding bars (pentaphone), a compass, lens, a solar clock, the alarm clock of Aristostle, inertia spheres, parabolic reflectors and a pendulum – all illustrating important phenomena studied by the great philosopher and taught to his students (important note: one of his students was Alexander the Great!).

Arnea village




Arnea combines Halkidiki's traditional past with a vibrant present! Away from the resorts, beach bars and tourists, the village of Arnea is a vibrant community that treasures the past. Here, you will get the real feel of what life is like in Halkidiki's mountains, to admire fine examples of traditional architecture and find out more about old-time crafts such as weaving.
In the old days, Arnea village had a range of names to be called, was known as Liarigovi, yet during ancient times, it was also commonly known as Arni, Arnea and Avgea. In 1821 it was one of 42 villages that were burned to the ground by Baram Pasa. Arnea is one of the 12 historic communities known as the Mantemohoria ("Iron villages"), because at one time, they were obliged to provide workers for the area's mines.
The Ministry of Culture has declared Arnea as historic site because its past and its important examples of traditional Macedonian architecture, too.
Today, Arnea has a population of 2.300 residents and is reknowned for its architecture and the beautiful church of Saint Stefanos. Small guesthouses, traditional kafeneia "cafe shop", taverns is what to expect from the quaint village of Arnea.

Glarokavos beach




Glarokavos is one of the most attractive and popular partly organized beaches near Pefkochori village, with gentle sand, some fine gravel and shallow waters. There is an amazing lagoon at the end of the shore which was and still is used as a core for small boats. At this location, the beach is not organized but it's ideal for chilling out!

Kalogria beach




Kalogria is a long but narrow shore with pure white sand. The best in Kalogria beach is the calm, shallow, super crystal and emerald waters which make it such exotic and ideal for children. It is well-organized with disabled access available; it is the perfect choice for those who like water sports facilities and snorkelling; for that reason, it usually gets overcrowded.

Karidi beach




Karidi is said to be the most beautiful beach and Sithonia’s fantastic gem.
Wide enough with white sand and exotic, super shallow turquoise waters make an idyllic scenery. It is not well-organized, but it usually gets crowded, there are just some canteens to service tourists and restaurants nearby and also, you will find sea & mountain activities.
It is a family-friendly beach with shallow water forming what looks like a big aquamarine swimming pool. The beach is not organized so just come with a towel and parasol and put yourself down where there’s room. Just a meters before you reach the beach, there is a beach bar which served soft drinks, cocktails and snacks.

Livari beach




No doubt Livari is the most special beach in Sithonia; is a thin sandbar consisting of fine sand that separates the bay from the sea to create a breathtaking lagoon. It has super shallow waters with some slippery rocks, so be aware. It is non-organized, so visitors you need to bring your own equipment.
The view from Livari beach to Mount Athos is astonishing especially at sunset!

Parthenonas village




Parthenonas is a historical village with some beautifully preserved houses of Macedonian architecture that distinguished for their authentic and traditional character. Yet 50 years ago, things were very different as residents abandoned the village in find work in Neos Marmaras and not only, several years later, thanks to the initiatives of the government to list it as preserved, did people return to the village.

Mountain Stratoniko



The Stratoniko Mountain is located above the village of Stagira, Aristotle's birthplace. The place is full of primitive forests of ancient oaks, tall and old beech trees, chestnut trees and numerous other representatives of the thick flora. There are also laurels, hollies, coumaris, plane trees, linden trees and poplars. There are more than 600 species of plants, of which 38 are marked as protected species.

Varvara waterfalls




Between the villages Varvara and Olympiada, one can find two amazing waterfalls in a forest full of taxus, alders, lindens, beeches and wild hazels. Both the location and the feeling of calmness and serenity will make you feel like you have discovered a small paradise. You will notice the two waterfalls entering the ravine after you have parked your car. The water leads to Mavrolaka, a river that is the boundary between Olympiada and Varvara. You will see the first waterfall from above, whereas in the second one you will feel its momentum even in the summer. It takes a short walk (5-10 minutes) to discover this wonderful place. Both the wooden bridges and the proper marks on the path contribute to the enjoyment of the unique scenery. It is ideal for families with kids who will be thrilled!

Ancient Stagira



Ancient Stagira is known for being the birthplace of Aristotle, the greatest philosopher of ancient times and the tutor of Alexander the Great. The city was founded in ca. 655 B.C. by colonists from the island of Andros.
Down to the Persian Wars, Stagira was a free, independent and prosperous city. After the Persians retreated, it became an ally both to the Athenians and later to the Spartans until the city was occupied by king Philip II of Macedon in 349 B.C.
A few years after the destruction, however, Philip himself repopulated the city in return for Aristotle’s, tutoring of his son Alexander. Yet Stagira never recovered its former brilliance and it is henceforth mentioned by ancient authors only on a few occasions, invariably in connection with the great philosopher. An enchanting later written tradition records that after Aristotle died, the inhabitants of Stagira transferred and buried his relics inside the city, in a place called “the Aristoteleion”, a large altar was erected on his grave, and an annual festival was instituted in his honour, called the "Aristoteleia".

Aristotle’s park



The Aristotle's Park, a unique theme park of Halkidiki, is located in a most beautiful area with a marvellous view
towards the Gulf of Ierissos and the whole peninsula of Athos.
The park is dedicated to the famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle and includes a series of interesting instruments which when used properly will show the phenomena of nature. These experimental instruments, operating by rules of physics are mentioned in Aristotle’s textbooks and especially in the one called “The Naturals”.
The 12 interactive instruments include a prism, optical discs, a water turbine, a telescope, sounding bars (pentaphone), a compass, lens, a solar clock, the alarm clock of Aristostle, inertia spheres, parabolic reflectors and a pendulum – all illustrating important phenomena studied by the great philosopher and taught to his students (important note: one of his students was Alexander the Great!).

In the old days, Arnea village had a range of names to be called, was known as Liarigovi, yet during ancient times, it was also commonly known as Arni, Arnea and Avgea. Arnea is one of the 12 historic communities known as the Mantemohoria ("Iron villages"), because at one time, they were obliged to provide workers for the area's mines.
